Biography
Cy Gilbert is a master flutist who creates music that is more than simply heard, it is music that is experienced. Compare a simple black and white image with real life - resonant with color, texture, depth and emotion, and you will begin to understand the difference.
It takes a unique musician to be able to create an experience out of music, one who not only possesses the advanced technical skills of playing the instrument, but also with the natural gift of being able to process all the elements of music through his soul. The result becomes vivid sound that is infused with life.
Cy Gilbert is an artist who possesses this special gift. He is a consummate symphonic and chamber musician, known particularly for his sensitive interpretations of the French repertoire. Cy has performed internationally as a flute soloist and guest artist for numerous symphonies, orchestras, and professional ensembles, and has been the recipient of a variety of prestigious musical awards and honors throughout his career.
While continuing his formal studies, Cy has studied under mentors such as Alain Marion, Julius Baker, Jean-Pierre Rampal and James Galway.
In 2003 Mr. Gilbert relocated from Boston, where he regularly performed as flute soloist with the Newton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Lexington Symphony, the Metro West Woodwind Quintet, and the Berkley College Studio Recording Orchestra. Cy continues his activities as a freelance artist and private flute instructor in Boise and the surrounding area.
