Private Instruction
My unique and highly effective use of both the traditional and Suzuki Methods help a diverse group of students realize their potential on the instrument, and I frequently discuss and personally demonstrate both basic and advanced techniques in order to acheive a beautiful tone, count accurately, and play with clean articulation.
I understand that establishing a dedicated flute practice routine can be challenging at times, but a regular committed practice is where you will find great joy harnessed from within yourself! Based on each student's particular needs and aspirations, I regularly demonstrate how even the simplest exercise can make profound differences in someone's tone quality and their enjoyment of music!

Testimonials
"Mr. Gilbert is an awesome teacher! It's fun to go to my lessons, and he even makes me laugh. When I started taking privately, I didn't sound very good. But now after working hard and practicing a lot, I have made big achievements in my sound and technique. The pieces Cy has given me to learn have inspired me, and then it's not hard to practice, because music is something I really like. Mr. Gilbert also helps me with my fingering and tone - and I get better and better each week. Now I love playing the flute more than ever!"
- Grace Drynan, junior high school student
"Cy is very patient and positive with his students. He is a devoted instructor and works hard to bring out beautiful music from each student, and is not only a talented flutist but a gifted instructor. He also offers his expertise in flute repair and advice on choosing the right instrument."

"After my first lesson with Cy, I improved more than I had in a year. He has great advice and is an exceptional teacher. He is very figted at diagnosing problems and his suggestions crate nearly instant results. Cy Gilbert is truly the most inspirational flute teacher I ever had."
- Isaac Swanson, high school senior 2004
"Some time ago, I was rather dispirited with playing the flute, due to my lack of progress over the past year or so. I had just played in a masterclass that reflected not my actual ability at the time, but rather by complete lack of inspiration. I realized a change of direction was needed in my misical life, if I wanted to keep playing the flute. I changed teachers, and with Cy Gilbert's expertise and guidance over the past nine months, I have accomplished pieces I had only marveled at. I have become first chair in an orchestra I had only dreamed of playing with, and have conquered difficulties that would have stopped me dead in my tracks without his help. His attntive isntructions and lighthearted manner have made for an extraordinary learning experience. I now enjoy practicing, have stronger technique, better tone, and smarter musicianship than ever before. I cannot sing the praises fo this gifted teacher enough!"
- Erin DeGroot, high school senior
"Cy is a very helpful teacher. He taught me to play when I couldn't even make a sound. Now I am currently playing 8 notes and have learned lots of songs."
- Tyler T., age 10
"Cy was recommended to me by my son's band teacher in elementary school. Before my son started lessons he couldn't even get a sound out of his flute. After 30 minutes with Cy he was playing Mary Had a Little Lamb. I couldn't believe it! Cy is very professional and a great role model for my son. My son was self-conscious about being the only boy in his band class who plays the flute, but now he says he really likes playing the flute and wishes his lessons were more than once a week. Cy is so motivational and truly makes learning fun."
- Kris Kilkenny, Tyler's mother
